Suspects Arrested Implicated in a Theater Shooting

UNION CITY — Detectives with the Union City Police Department arrested two suspects in
connection with a shooting inside a movie theater. The shooting occurred at Century Theaters
Union Landing on June 26.
A disturbance occurred between several patrons at one of the theaters, before a handgun
was fired. The incident happened at 12:50 a.m. One male victim sustained a gunshot injury
that required medical treatment at a hospital. The suspects fled before responding officers
arrived on the scene, and evacuated the theater.
In a prepared statement Union City police said. “After a thorough investigation, detectives
identified and apprehended the suspects involved in this case.”
Two Oakland residents were taken into custody on August 2. Laquita N. Schink, 39, and
Ernest Dotson, 38, were both booked at the Alameda County Santa Rita Jail. Schink and
Dotson each face charges for attempted murder and conspiracy to commit crime. The case is
under review.
Schink has prior arrests on her record for battery, burglary, robbery, and receiving stolen
property/motor vehicle. Dotson has prior arrests for burglary, hit and run, and firearms-related
offenses. He has been arrested three times for carrying concealed weapons in a vehicle, and
possession of ammunition.
