Suspect Arrested, Stolen Vehicles Recovered in Stockton Freeway Shooting Investigation

STOCKTON, CA  –  The Valley Division of the California Highway Patrol has reportedly arrested an individual believed to be involved in a freeway shooting. Authorities also recovered a firearm and several allegedly stolen vehicles as part of the investigation.

On the evening of August 4, officers from the Stockton area responded to a report of a shooting on westbound State Route 120 near Main Street, according to a press release by the California Highway Patrol.

At the scene, the victim, who was not injured, provided responding officers with information that led to the identification of a suspect.

Utilizing Flock Safety cameras, officers were able to identify the vehicle and potential suspect. This led to the discovery of the suspect’s vehicle in Oakland.

At that point, the Golden Gate Division’s Alameda County Regional Auto Theft Task Force, along with Valley Division personnel, joined the case.

On August 5, authorities conducted surveillance on the suspect’s vehicle, which led to the suspect being located in an “unsheltered encampment.”

CHP Golden Gate Division investigators obtained and carried out a search warrant.

Two suspects — identified by authorities as Stacy Nelson, 27, and Jarvis Guard, 40 — were found hiding in a structure within the encampment.

Both suspects were taken into custody and booked into San Joaquin County jail on suspicion of vehicle theft, shooting at an occupied vehicle, conspiracy, gun-related charges, and probation violations.

Additionally, authorities reportedly recovered five stolen vehicles from the location.

A loaded handgun, later determined to be stolen, was found at the scene, authorities said.
