CHP K9 Unit Seizes 100 Pounds of Methamphetamine During Traffic Stop on U.S. 101
On August 30, 2024, at approximately 5:20 a.m., a California Highway Patrol (CHP) officer conducted a routine traffic stop on U.S. 101 at the Bradley Rest Area in Monterey County. The stop involved a 2006 Ford Mustang and was initiated due to a traffic violation. During the stop, the officer observed several indicators that suggested the driver, identified as 39-year-old Pablo Politronestrada from Salinas, California, might be involved in criminal activity.
To further investigate, the officer deployed his K9 partner, Rae, to conduct an exterior sniff of the vehicle. The K9 provided a positive alert, prompting the officer to search the vehicle. During the search, approximately 100 pounds of crystal methamphetamine were discovered, with an estimated street value of $120,000.
Following the discovery, Politronestrada was arrested and subsequently booked into Monterey County Jail. He faces charges of possession of methamphetamine for sale and transportation of methamphetamine.
This operation underscores the ongoing efforts of the California Highway Patrol to ensure safety and security on California’s roadways. The CHP continues its mission to provide the highest level of service to the community, utilizing resources such as K9 units to detect and prevent drug trafficking.
