A Shasta County man was recently arrested for allegedly contacting a minor for sexual purposes.
According to a press release, the Sheriff’s Office was notified on Thursday, July 18, that an adult male had allegedly been trying to arrange a meeting with a 13-year-old girl for sexual activity.
The girl was actually an undercover decoy, the Sheriff’s Office said.
The suspect allegedly began sending explicit messages to the decoy via text, and investigators determined the suspect intended to meet the person he believed to be a minor for sexual activity.
The Sheriff’s Office identified the suspect as Kodi Knox, 30, of Redding.
On Sunday, Sept. 8, detectives and other officials from the Sheriff’s Office carried out a search and arrest warrant at Knox’s home. Knox was taken into custody without incident.
During a search of Knox’s home, investigators reportedly found additional evidence that Knox was in possession of child sexual abuse material.
Knox was ultimately booked at the Shasta County jail on suspicion of sending harmful material to a minor, arranging to meet with a minor for lewd purposes, communicating with a minor with lewd intent, sexual exploitation of a child, and possession of child sexual abuse material.
