Petaluma police have arrested a man for allegedly stabbing another man several times during an altercation.
According to a press release by the Petaluma Police Department, officers responded to a report of two men fighting on Hopper Street at approximately 9:53 p.m. on Monday.
Before officers arrived, the suspect, identified as Javier Ortega, 48, allegedly stabbed the victim multiple times.
Witnesses reported that Ortega attempted to discard the knife, which was later found near the front of the Mary Issak Center.
The victim was transported to a hospital for emergency surgery due to the severity of his injuries. Ortega was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and on outstanding warrants.
As of 6:50 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 17, the victim was reported to be in stable condition.
