Sacramento, CA – “Earlier this morning, Sacramento County Sheriff’s Deputies assigned as School Resource Officers (SRO) with the Elk Grove Unified School District, were standing by at Valley High School for arrivals. During these arrivals, they recognized 18-year-old Angel Ortiz, a known probationer (for firearms related charges), parked in the parking lot. The Deputies also knew Ortiz was no longer a student there.
When a deputy attempted to contact him, Ortiz fled in his vehicle at a high rate of speed, showing a wanton disregard for students walking to the school, driving up on sidewalks as he fled. To avoid endangering students and families arriving to school, the SROs decided not to immediately pursue him in heavy traffic.
A short time later, the SRO team located Ortiz’s car. Deputies detained Ortiz without incident and conducted a probation search, yielding a loaded high capacity magazine, a large bag of psilocybin mushrooms, a bag of cash, and other contraband.
Ortiz was transported and booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail for multiple felony charges.”
