SAN LEANDRO — Two brothers from Hayward have been arrested and charged for allegedly murdering a San Leandro man in his driveway. Both suspects remain in custody at Alameda County Santa Rita Jail, pending a plea hearing on October 9.
An attempted robbery turned deadly violent as the victim arrived home. Anderson Choy, 54, was killed shortly after he pulled into his driveway on May 5. Choy was was fatally shot in his neck by a an AR-15 style rifle. He was pronounced dead outside his Benedict Drive residence.
San Leandro police said in a prepared statement. “Through surveillance (video) and other digital evidence investigators were able to identify the suspects.”
Erick Moreno, 18, was arrested on September 19 at 10:54 a.m. in Castro Valley. Charges were filed against the younger Moreno on September 23. His charges include murder, use of a firearm, attempted second-degree robbery, and related offenses.
Mauricio A. Moreno, 28, was arrested on September 19 at 5:11 p.m. in Hayward. The charges filed against him also include murder, use of a firearm, second-degree robbery, and related offenses.
Both arrests were made during a joint operation between San Leandro detectives and the SLPD tactical operations team. A third unidentified suspect was arrested as an accessory to the murder, but later released from custody the same day.
