NOVATO — An armed man found hiding inside a dumpster was arrested outside a
coffeeshop. Novato police took 22-year-old Tariq J. Wade into custody, with help from the
Marin County Sheriff’s Office. He is no longer listed in custody at Marin County Jail.

His dirty hiding place proved short lived. Wade was found hiding in the dumpster and arrested
without further incident. Wade was booked for the following charges:

* Felon in possession of a loaded firearm PC 25850(C)
* Possession of Ammunition PC 30305(A)
* Possession of marijuana for sale PC 11359(B)
* Resisting/Obstructing an officer PC 148(A)

Wade has had multiple run-ins with the law since he was 18-years-old. He formerly lived in
Sausalito and recently moved to Novato. Wade attracted unwanted attention on
September 19 when he committed an unsafe pedestrian violation. Wade a
previously convicted felon, was carrying a loaded firearm and ammunition.

A Novato detective assisting with patrol duties detained Wade. The detective checked Wade’s
backpack and felt a concealed firearm inside. Wade next attempted to forcibly retrieve his
backpack from the detective, before fleeing.

Wade ran south on Nave Drive. A foot chase commenced near train tracks east of the
Hamilton Marketplace shopping center. Wade temporarily evaded apprehension by jumping
inside a trash dumpster near Peet’s Coffee.

Wade has been arrested seven times since 2020. His record includes prior arrests for
carrying loaded firearms and possession of a controlled substance.
