A Redding man was arrested on suspicion of robbing a local jewelry store, according to a police press release.

Early on the afternoon of Monday, Sept. 23, officers responded to a reported robbery at Four Winds Jewelry on Hilltop Drive. Upon arrival, officers learned that an individual, described as a white male, had entered the store and attempted to steal an emerald-encrusted bracelet valued at over $10,000.

Police identified the suspect as Jeffery Charon, 43, of Redding.

According to police, Charon was confronted by an employee as he attempted to leave the business with the bracelet. A brief physical altercation took place, but Charon ultimately fled the scene with the bracelet.

Officers responded to the area in an effort to locate Charon, who was reportedly known to frequent the Hilltop Drive Business District. Charon was not located at that time.

Based on the investigation, officers had established probable cause to arrest Charon for robbery, police said.

Later that evening, around 6 p.m., Officer Woodward observed Charon walking southbound along California State Route 273 near Westwood Avenue.

While police initially did not find the bracelet in Charon’s possession, an X-ray during booking revealed that Charon had hidden it “in an orifice in his lower extremities,” police said.

Charon was ultimately booked on suspicion of robbery.
