Man Already in Custody on Unrelated Charges Identified as Suspect in Fatal Vallejo Shooting

VALLEJO — CA

A man who was already in jail in connection with another case has reportedly been identified as the primary suspect in the fatal shooting of a woman in Vallejo in early September.

According to a press release by the Vallejo Police Department, officers responded to a reported injury collision with gunshots heard near the intersection of Tennessee Street and Mare Island Way at approximately 12:27 a.m. on Sept. 6.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers reportedly found a 2005 white Honda Accord that had been involved in a single-vehicle crash. The driver, identified as an adult female and the only occupant of the vehicle, was found with at least one gunshot wound.

Vallejo Fire Department personnel were called to perform an emergency extrication due to the significant damage to the vehicle. Despite their efforts, the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Vallejo Police Department Detective Division later identified Omar David Molina Mendoza, a 27-year-old Vallejo resident, as the primary suspect in the case.

Mendoza was charged with murder by the Solano County District Attorney’s Office.

Authorities said said that at the time of his identification as a suspect in this case, Mendoza was already in custody at the Solano County jail on unrelated charges.
