A series of opportunistic thefts dating from Sept. 12 to Sept. 16, eventually led law enforcement to suspect Randall Sellner, 28 ,of Thousand Oaks. The recent surge of property crimes throughout Ventura County pushed the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department East County Investigations Property Crimes Unit went to work to find the suspect, or suspects.
According to VCSD spokesman Det. Kevin Walters, preliminary investigation indicated that “the
suspect specifically targeted unlocked vehicles,” exploiting local area residents’ sense of security and accessibility. The items reported as stolen included cash, credit cards, and various personal belongings, unsettling the community accustomed to a higher standard of safety.
Through meticulous investigation and gathering of evidence from the affected locations,
detectives were able to pinpoint Sellner. The identification prompted a probation search at Sellner’s residence which led to the discovery of evidence linking him directly to the thefts.
On Sept. 30, Sellner, who was already detained at the Ventura County pre-trial
Detention Facility on separate charges, was arrested in custody and charged with multiple counts
of petty theft and vehicle tampering. He remains in custody on a no-bail hold.
