Driver in Custody for Suspected Killing of a Pedestrian at Concord Gas Station

CONCORD, CA — A gas station confrontation between two men left one pedestrian dead and a driver in custody. Alex G. Lazaro-Rosas, 22 of Concord, is accused of intentionally hitting the victim with a motor vehicle.
A disturbance was reported on October 6 at Bonfare Markets 28 Convenience Store and Gas Station, when a dispute between a driver and a pedestrian reportedly turned violent. Police responded to 2800 Grant Street at approximately 7:45 p.m., adjacent to an exit ramp for State Route 242.
Concord police said in a prepared statement. “Officers found a 33-year-old man with injuries caused by a vehicle impact. The victim and suspect in this case were acquainted.” Police and paramedics provided first aid for the victim, who unfortunately was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim’s identity was withheld, pending notification of his family.
Investigators have cause to believe the suspect intentionally struck the victim, before driving away from the scene. Officers quickly found the suspect. Lazaro-Rosas was detained a short distance away from the crime scene. Officers placed Lazaro-Rosas under arrest at 9:20 p.m.
Lazaro-Rosas is being housed at the West County Detention Facility in Richmond. He remains ineligible for release on bond, pending further review by the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office.
