Placerville woman gets 10 years for boyfriend’s death

Placerville, CA —

“On October 7, El Dorado County Judge Mark Ralphs sentenced Erica Lynn Chambers, 37, of Placerville, to a state prison sentence of 10 years for killing her boyfriend, Mason Visman.

Chambers had previously pleaded guilty to gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, hit and run and driving under the influence causing injury, officials said.

On Nov. 11, 2022, after attending a family wedding, Chambers was driving with Visman in a Mercedes SUV near the Mosquito Road exit on Highway 50 in Placerville at a high rate of speed when she ran the SUV into the rear end of a Toyota Prius, before colliding into a guardrail.

Mason Visman was ejected through an open window and killed instantly, while the occupants of the Toyota suffered minor injuries. Witnesses reported Chambers attempted to drive away but the vehicle was heavily damaged. She was only able to travel a few hundred yards before she got out of the car and collapsed. Chambers was “highly intoxicated condition and did not tell police she had a passenger in the vehicle when she was arrested,” according to a release by the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office. The following day, after the victim was reported missing and his body was discovered by a passerby, Chambers was re-arrested for the gross vehicular manslaughter charge.

The case was investigated by the California Highway Patrol, the California Highway Patrol Multi-Disciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT), the Placerville Police Department and El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office. Deputy District Attorney Michael P. Pizzuti prosecuted the case and is specially assigned to vertically prosecute felony driving under the influence cases and vehicular manslaughter cases for the El Dorado County District Attorney’s Office under a traffic safety grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety.”
