Man in Custody in Lieu of $350,000 Bond for Charges Involving Vehicle Theft

OAKLEY — Devon J. Singleton, 29, of Antioch, remains in custody in lieu of $350,000 bond after reportedly stealing a vehicle and assaulting an Oakley officer. Oakley police spotted the stolen vehicle on October 12 traveling along Jersey Island Road.
Police deployed spike strips that punctured the vehicle’s tires, which slowed the driver, who
continued fleeing. Singleton eventually crashed into a patrol car near a gas station. Singleton and a police sergeant were injured and transported to a hospital for
medical treatment. An injured woman, who was with Singleton, was also taken to a hospital.
After being released from the hospital Singleton was booked into jail. The following charges were filed
against Singleton:
* Driving or taking a vehicle without consent
* Fleeing a pursuing officer while driving recklessly
* Fleeing an officer and driving against traffic
* Assault with a deadly weapon and force likely to cause great bodily injury upon an officer
* Causing great bodily injury
Singleton is no stranger to law enforcement nor probation. He was convicted in August, of this year, for
battery. In June 2023, he was convicted for carrying a concealed weapon.
Singleton has been arrested nine times in 2024 for vehicle thefts, controlled substances and
possession of burglary tools. In 2023, he was arrested five times for vehicle thefts and possession of
controlled substances. In 2022, he was arrested for vehicle theft, and possession of vehicle master
keys with intent to use.
