Man Charged for Murder and Robbery is Also Suspected of Attempted Carjacking

PLEASANTON, CA  —  An incarcerated man charged in two separate murder and robbery cases
faces a third, new legal jeopardy. Andres Sanchez, 38, was already behind bars when he was
identified as an attempted carjacking suspect in Pleasanton.

Sanchez, a Hayward resident, has been housed at Alameda County Santa Rita Jail since
April 30. He was subsequently charged for multiple felonies, including murder, use of firearm and threatening witnesses. He remains ineligible for
release on bond in this homicide case.

The Hayward homicide occurred on April 26. Sanchez and the victim engaged in a verbal
dispute, before Sanchez allegedly shot him, according to officials. This fatal shooting happened only one day prior
to the attempted carjacking incident in Pleasanton.

On September 18, Sanchez was arrested again—this time for his alleged involvement in a
robbery. The robbery that he allegedly committed occurred on April 23, seven days prior to his
arrest for the homicide. He was already in jail for the murder case—when he was arrested for
the robbery case.

Multiple charges were filed against Sanchez involving the robbery. His charges in this case
include second-degree robbery, receiving stolen property, and assault with a semiautomatic
firearm. More potential charges are pending in a third criminal case.

Pleasanton police believe Sanchez attempted a carjacking, prior to his recent arrests for
murder and robbery. New criminal allegations against Sanchez have been submited for
review to the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office. Sanchez allegedly attempted a
carjacking in Pleasanton on April 27. DNA evidence implicates him as the suspect in that
crime.

Sanchez has  had frequent contacts with law enforcement. He was convicted in 2021 for receiving
a stolen motor vehicle. Sanchez has been arrested nine times since 2022.
