MARTINEZ — A woman was arrested following a carjacking at the Martinez Amtrak Station, where
two victims were injured. Christina A. Starnes, 25, of Helendale, remains in custody at the Martinez
Detention Facility in lieu of $240,000 bond.

Starnes allegedly stole a parked vehicle, while the driver was arranging luggage in the trunk. The
driver’s foot was run over. An elderly passenger was forced out of the vehicle and dragged a short
distance.

Martinez officers responded to the carjacking on October 25 at 7:21 a.m. Martinez police said in a
prepared statement. “Both the driver and passenger required medical transport and treatment for
injuries sustained during the crime,” officials said.

The suspect fled from the train station before Martinez officers arrived. “Martinez police and Amtrak
investigators tracked Starnes, who was found inside the stolen vehicle in Walnut Creek.” Starnes was
arrested by Martinez officers at 10:38 a.m., with help from Walnut Creek PD.

Starnes was booked for the following charges:

* Carjacking PC 215
* Possession of stolen property PC 496
* Aggravated elder abuse PC 368
* Aggravated resisting an officer PC 69
* Resisting/delaying an officer PC 148

Starnes had earlier contact with Martinez police on the same morning. She allegedly caused a
disturbance on a train platform. She was reportedly uncooperative with police and issued a refund by
Amtrak. Martinez police responded to the station again about half hour later—for the carjacking.

The carjacking investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information can contact Martinez police,
Detective Dustin Mayberry at 925-372-3451 or email dmayberry@cityofmartinez.org.
