Son in Custody Charged with Murdering his Father Found in a Dumpster

HAYWARD — A man in custody allegedly murdered his father whose corpse was found
inside a garbage dumpster. David Sanchez, 25, of Hayward, is accused of fatally shooting his
58-year-old father on October 23.

Family members contacted the police that day when the father failed to show up at his
workplace. Nor was the father answering his cell phone. Oakland police detained Sanchez
the following day for an unrelated matter. Sanchez said something that prompted Oakland
police to request Hayward PD to conduct a welfare check.

Hayward officers entered a warehouse on the 2000 block of American Avenue, where they
found evidence of a fatal shooting. Investigators believe this crime was carefully planned.
Detectives determined there was probable cause that the son was responsible for the
homicide of his father.

A press release from Hayward police said. “Detectives spoke with Sanchez who disclosed the
location of where his father was deceased inside a dumpster.” His body was found on the
33000 block of Central Avenue in Union City.

Hayward police arrested Sanchez on October 24 at 6:10 p.m. Sanchez was charged on
October 28 with murder and related charges including use of firearm on a vulnerable victim.
Sanchez was already on probation for a firearms conviction in September. He remains in
custody at Alameda County Santa Rita Jail.

Sanchez was previously arrested for shooting at an unoccupied vehicle and discharging a
firearm in a negligent manner. He was convicted subsequently for carrying a loaded firearm.
The present homicide investigation remains active.
