Police in Cypress reportedly discovered over $10,000 worth of stolen historical coins during a search of a vehicle late last month.

According to a press release by the Cypress Police Department, officers discovered a vehicle parked “suspiciously” and made contact with the occupant.

Officers allegedly found a large quantity of suspected methamphetamine, fentanyl, and other narcotics in the vehicle.

The officers reportedly also found a wooden jewelry box containing a collection of historic U.S. coins dating from the 1800s to World War II. The coins, well-preserved, were estimated to be worth over $10,000, police said.

Investigators determined that the jewelry box had been stolen from a storage facility in Cypress. Police identified the rightful owner, and the property was returned.

The occupant of the vehicle was arrested on suspicion of the possession of illegal narcotics with the intent to distribute and possession of stolen property.
