CALAVERAS COUNTY — A Lodi man was recently arrested after allegedly being caught with narcotics and a loaded weapon during a traffic stop in Wallace.

According to a press release by the county Sheriff’s Office, a patrol sergeant conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of Highway 12 and Wards Avenue in Wallace on the night of October 20.

The driver, identified as Chad Nathaniel Hixson, 42, of Lodi, was reportedly found to be on probation with a restricted driver’s license permitting travel only to and from work. The sergeant confirmed Hixson was not driving within these restrictions, as he was allegedly in the area visiting friends, the Sheriff’s Office said.

While Hixson was detained, the K-9 deputy conducted an exterior search of the vehicle and reportedly alerted to the presence of narcotics inside. The sergeant then searched the interior and reportedly discovered a grey backpack containing suspected fentanyl and methamphetamine, along with a loaded handgun, ammunition, and paraphernalia found elsewhere in the vehicle.

Hixon was later booked at the Calaveras County jail on suspicion of the possession of a firearm and ammunition by a prohibited person, possession of a controlled substance for sale, transportation of narcotics, and unspecified misdemeanor charges.
