Humboldt County Authorities Arrest Man for Alleged Attempted Robbery

MCKINLEYVILLE, CA — Authorities in Humboldt County have reportedly arrested a man for an alleged attempted robbery, later, an attempted break-in.
According to a press release by the Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded on October 22 to a report of an attempted robbery at a hardware store on Central Ave. in McKinleyville.
A man, identified as 49-year-old Michael Armas of McKinleyville, allegedly tried to take multiple power tools from the store and reportedly used pepper spray on employees before leaving in a pickup truck, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Later that day, deputies went to Armas’s residence in McKinleyville but he was allegedly uncooperative, necessitating an arrest warrant.
Around 8:30 p.m., deputies were called to a home on Van Wycke St. in Trinidad after a report that Armas was attempting to force entry through the front door. The resident, who did not know Armas, called law enforcement.
Deputies arrived on the scene and detained Armas on the outstanding arrest warrant as well as for the reported forced entry.
Armas was taken to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility and booked on suspicion of second-degree robbery. The investigation is ongoing.
