LIVERMORE, CA — Maria N. Shields, a 64-year-old resident of Oakland, was arrested following
a traffic stop in Livermore. Shields’ troubles escalated after being stopped for an expired
vehicle registration near the intersection of North Vascao and Northfront roads in Livermore.
An identification check revealed that Shields had an outstanding warrant from the Alameda
County Sheriff’s Office. She also reportedly had in her possession a concealed weapon and
illicit drugs, along with other suspicious items.
“During a search of her vehicle, police found the methamphetamine and a stolen license plate,” Livermore police said in a prepared statement.
The methamphetamine was found concealed inside a false compartment. In addition, suspicious mail and other evidence of identity theft
were found inside her car.
Shields was arrested on November 1 at 3:30 a.m. She was booked into Alameda County
Santa Rita Jail on suspicion of multiple crimes. Livermore police recovered the firearm and
other evidence for safekeeping.
Shields was booked for the following charges:
* Possession of a controlled substance for sale
* False compartment activity
* Carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle
* Addict in possession of a firearm
* Receiving or concealing stolen property
* Unlawful use of willfully obtained personal identifying information
* Possession of personal ID with intent to defraud
* Uttering a fictitious check
