SAN FRANCISCO, CA  —  Officers with the San Francisco Police Department have reportedly arrested multiple individuals as part of an ongoing, multi-faceted effort to combat organized retail crime in the city. The operation involved both uniformed and plainclothes officers carrying out coordinated efforts at multiple retail locations.

On October 15, police detained seven individuals at the Mission Street location. Each of the suspects was cited for shoplifting  and released at the scene. The total value of recovered stolen merchandise exceeded $400, and officers returned the property to the store.

In a similar operation on October 29, police reportedly arrested 13 suspects. Ten of these individuals, all adults, were cited and released on site, while two others were booked at the San Francisco County Jail due to outstanding warrants in addition to the theft charges. Officers also discovered a replica firearm on one of the suspects.

The stolen merchandise was recovered and returned to the retail businesses, police said.

Police reportedly also used new mobile security tools and public safety cameras in the apprehension of a suspect involved in a separate retail theft incident in the city’s Southern District. This incident occurred at a Walgreens store on the 400 block of Mission Street, where two individuals allegedly took merchandise valued at over $2,500.

Police responded to the Walgreens location shortly after 12 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 4. Officers reviewed surveillance footage and distributed images of the suspects.

Subsequent surveillance using mobile security units and public safety cameras allowed officers to locate an individual matching one suspect’s description. Officers later observed the individual allegedly attempting to sell the stolen items near 24th and Mission streets.

The suspect, whom police identified as 23-year-old Taji Muhammed, was taken into custody and booked on suspicion of second-degree burglary, grand theft, organized retail theft, and resisting arrest.

These operations are part of an ongoing effort by the San Francisco Police Department to curb organized retail crimes across the city.
