SAN RAFAEL — Marin County Sheriff’s Office detectives arrested a couple for possession of
a prohibited firearm and illicit drugs. A search of a San Rafael residence turned up a loaded
handgun, suspected cocaine and other contraband.

Drane M. Hicks, 33, and Jonathan M. Poole, 25, are felons prohibited from possession of
firearms. Hicks’ home was the target of an investigation initiated by patrol officers. Her
boyfriend Poole from Vallejo was also under investigation. They both have long rap sheets.
Detectives arrested Hicks and Poole on November 12 as they attempted to leave Hicks’
residence. Hicks was found in possession of suspected cocaine. Poole was with Hicks in
violation of a restraining order prohibiting contact.

Hicks was in possession of suspected cocaine when she was searched. She was cited for
possession of cocaine and released at the scene. Her boyfriend Poole faces more serious
trouble with the law.

The sheriff’s office said in a prepared statement. Detectives recovered a handgun from
Poole’s backpack. “Poole was additionally in possession of marijuana for sale, a scale, and
other controlled substances.”

Poole was booked at Marin County Jail on charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm, felon in possession of ammunition, carrying a loaded and concealed firearm and possession of a controlled substance.
