BEVERLY HILLS, CA — A man from Pennsylvania was arrested in Beverly Hills in connection with a carjacking and hit-and-run that left four people injured, police said Thursday.
In a press release, the Beverly Hills Police Department announced that they had arrested James Portul, 22, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, for an alleged carjacking on the 400 block of North Bedford Drive on the evening of Thursday, Nov. 14.
The victim called police just after 7 p.m. to report that an unknown male had forcibly stolen her vehicle, a black BMW X3.
A short time later, police received a second call about a vehicle-versus-pedestrian collision. The driver of the vehicle had lost control crashed near Wilshire Boulevard and Camden Drive, then fled the scene on foot, police said.
Four people — two adult males, one adult female, and one male juvenile — were injured in the collision and had to be hospitalized. Police say their current condition is unknown.
Shortly after the collision, officers working a city event at nearby South Beverly Drive detained Portul and took him into custody.
Portul was booked on suspicion of carjacking and hit-and-run with injury, according to police.
