SAN MATEO — Local police have reportedly arrested a married couple for the alleged possession of illegal drugs for sale.
According to a department press release, police officers conducted a traffic stop on Sunday, Nov. 17, on a vehicle traveling northbound on South Norfolk Street due to an alleged equipment violation. The stop took place near the intersection of South Norfolk Street and 3rd Avenue.
The driver, identified as Jose Lopez-Lopez, 35, and the passenger, Norma Herrera, 47, were contacted by officers. Lopez-Lopez reportedly gave consent for officers to search the vehicle.
During the search, authorities reportedly found over 18 grams of cocaine, nearly a gram of methamphetamine, plastic baggies, a digital scale, and $8,723 in cash.
The narcotics and cash were collected as evidence, and the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office was notified.
Both Lopez-Lopez and Herrera were arrested and booked into San Mateo County jail on suspicion of possessing narcotics and controlled substances for sale, police said.
