Olivehurst Man Found Guilty of Attempt to Possess Child Pornography
“A Yuba County Jury found Christopher Ryan Brown guilty today of one count of Attempted Possession of Child Pornography. “This case should serve as a reminder to all of us that there are men online seeking to exploit our children” said Yuba County District Attorney Clint Curry. “I am very thankful that Mr. Brown’s efforts to solicit nude photos from a 10-year-old girl were foiled by the girl’s mother and law enforcement.”
The case begins with a 10-year-old girl we will call Jane. Jane had an Instagram account, where she clearly identified herself as a 10-year-old girl, who loves singing and dancing. The account also clearly stated it was monitored by a parent.
Close to midnight on June 19, 2023, Jane’s mom noticed that Mr. Brown had started following her daughter’s Instagram account. Posing as her daughter, she messaged Brown “Hi.” Believing he was communicating with 10-year-old Jane, Mr. Brown asked if she wanted to have sex, and repeatedly requested she send him nude photos.
Yuba County Sheriff’s Department Detective Tyler Johannes, Deputy Shaun Hammond, and Deputy Brady Beymer investigated the case. When deputies went to arrest Brown at his residence on August 11, 2023, he jumped out a back window naked and led law enforcement on a 10-minute foot chase through alleys and backyards. He didn’t get away.
Multiple witnesses testified this week in front of a jury of Yuba County citizens. The jury deliberated for approximately a half-day before finding Brown guilty of attempting to possess child pornography.
Sentencing is set for October 28, 2024, at 1:30 p.m., when Brown will be sentenced on this case and an unrelated felony domestic violence charge. His maximum exposure based on both cases is four years and four months in prison. Brown remains in custody pending sentencing.
Thank you to the Yuba County Sheriff’s Department deputies who did an amazing job investigating the case. Thank you to Senior Deputy District Attorney Brad Morrow for trying the case!:”
