SAN DIEGO, CA  —  The San Diego Police Department (SDPD) has concluded an investigation into a series of hate crime-related assaults that occurred in early September in the Hillcrest neighborhood, specifically along the 600-1000 block of University Avenue. During these incidents, multiple victims walking on the sidewalk were struck by gel-style pellets.

The investigation, led by the SDPD’s Criminal Intelligence Unit, involved a review of available evidence and video surveillance. Detectives identified a vehicle captured on surveillance footage, and the details were entered into the department’s Automated License Plate Recognition (ALPR) system. This tool allowed investigators to identify the suspect vehicle, which led to the identification of multiple suspects.

On the morning of November 20, SDPD detectives, supported by patrol officers, executed search warrants at three separate locations. As a result, three individuals, identified as 19-year-olds Anthony Lopez-Quiniones, Arturo Herrera-Sustaita, and Angelo Nathaniel Aron, were arrested and charged with multiple hate crime-related offenses. They have been booked into the San Diego County Jail.

The San Diego Police Department emphasized its commitment to ensuring safety and addressing acts of hate within the community. The case has been forwarded to the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution. Further inquiries should be directed to the District Attorney’s Office.

Anyone with additional information about this case is encouraged to contact SDPD at (619) 531-2000 or Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
