Man on Probation Allegedly Caught with Ammunition, Taser During Traffic Stop

HUMBOLDT COUNTY — A man on probation for burglary and domestic violence was arrested after allegedly being caught with ammunition and someone else’s passport.
According to the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, deputies stopped a vehicle on Central Avenue on the night of Monday, Dec. 2, for expired registration. The driver was reportedly unable to provide a driver’s license, registration, or proof of insurance.
Deputies ultimately identified the driver as Daniel Byrd, 35, of McKinleyville.
Deputies also discovered Byrd is a convicted felon on probation for burglary and domestic violence. As part of his probation terms, Byrd was instructed to exit the vehicle for a search.
During the search, deputies allegedly found ammunition, a firearm holster, a taser, and a U.S. passport card belonging to another person.
Byrd was arrested and booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility on suspicion of being a felon in possession of ammunition and a taser, probation violation, expired registration, and driving without valid insurance.
