San Mateo Macy’s Reportedly Shoplifted Twice on Same Night; Suspects Arrested

SAN MATEO, CA — Officers with The San Mateo Police Department recently made two arrests in connection with two separate thefts at a local Macy’s on the same night.
According to a press release by the police department, the thefts occurred at the Macy’s at the Hillsdale Shopping Center in the late afternoon and evening of Tuesday, Dec. 3.
The first incident occurred just after 4 p.m., when Macy’s Loss Prevention Agents reported a male suspect stealing hundreds of dollars in merchandise.
The suspect, whom police identified as Carlos Duarte-Umul, was stopped outside the store. According to police, Duarte-Umul fought with store employees before being detained.
Officers arrested Duarte-Umul on suspicion of robbery.
The second incident was reported just after 7 p.m. An employee stopped another individual, whom police identified as Christopher Boyle, outside the store after he allegedly stole over a grand in merchandise.
The stolen items were recovered and returned to the store, police said.
Boyle was arrested on suspicion of organized retail theft.
