Five Face Charges for Alleged Smuggling of Drugs into Kern County Jail

Five people are reportedly facing charges amid an investigation into the alleged smuggling of narcotics into jail.
According to a press release by the Kern County sheriff’s office, deputies with the Gang Suppression and Detentions Investigations units conducted a narcotics investigation on December 11, targeting the smuggling of drugs into the Lerdo Jail Facility through the Mojave Superior Court.
Investigators reportedly identified gang members Matthew Christy and Roberto Betancourt, along with Nannette Landers, as alleged participants in the operation.
Deputies apprehended Betancourt, Landers, Genevieve Zuniga, and Zoey Seymour at the Mojave Superior Court. Christy, reportedly already in custody for an unrelated case, was also present at the court.
During a search of Betancourt, deputies allegedly discovered two ounces of fentanyl and two ounces of methamphetamine with an estimated prison value of $50,000.
All five individuals were arrested and booked on charges of conspiracy, participation in a criminal street gang, bringing narcotics into a jail facility, and possession of narcotics for sale.
