Cupertino Man Arrested for Alleged Possession, Distribution of CSAM

CUPERTINO, CA. — A Bay Area man has been arrested for the alleged possession and distribution of child sexual abuse material (CSAM), according to police.
In a press release, the San Jose Police Department announced that the arrest comes as a result of an investigation by the department’s Internet Crimes Against Children / Child Exploitation Detail Task Force.
The investigation took place between November of 2024 and this past January, resulting in the arrest of 38-year-old Sherman Cater III on Tuesday, Jan. 28, according to police.
The same day as the arrest, authorities searched Cater’s home in Cupertino and seized devices that contained child sexual abuse material, police said.
According to authorities, Cater worked as a para-educator at a high school in San Jose, and the school district has fully cooperated with the investigation.
Cater was booked at the Santa Clara County Main Jail on suspicion of the possession of child sexual abuse material, police said.
