Suspect Arrested in Connection with Fatal Shooting of Anaheim Man in Late February

ANAHEIM, CA — A 19-year-old suspect has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of an Anaheim man late last month.
According to a media release by the Anaheim Police Department, police officers and Anaheim Fire & Rescue personnel responded to the area of Ball Road, west of Sunkist Avenue, around 6 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 27, to check on a driver who appeared to be unconscious behind the wheel.
Upon arrival, officers found that the individual had sustained a gunshot wound. Officers and paramedics provided first aid at the scene before transporting the victim to a hospital, where they were pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Authorities have identified the victim as Anthony Aceves Espino, 32, of Anaheim.
Homicide detectives responded to the scene and began an investigation. Investigators from the Gang Unit and Crime Task Force also assisted in the case, police said.
On Tuesday, March 4, detectives reportedly arrested Lawrence Romero, 19, of Orange (pictured above) in connection with the case. He was taken into custody without incident and booked at the Anaheim Police Department on suspicion of murder.
The case will be submitted to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution. Further details are being kept confidential as the investigation is ongoing, police said.
