Police Arrest Suspect After Short Foot Chase
HOLLISTER—Authorities with the Hollister Police Department arrest a man after he led them on a short foot chase and resisted arrest. Arrested was Christian Machuca, 20, of Hollister.
At about 9:50 p.m. on Wednesday, the Hollister Police responded to the 800 block of West Second Street on a report of a domestic dispute between a young man and a woman wearing a red sweater.
When Officer Carlos Rodriguez arrived on scene he spotted a young male adult standing next to a female wearing a red sweater who appeared to have been crying. When Officer Rodriguez contacted Machuca and began a routine weapons pat down Machuca pulled away and began running east bound on West Second Street.
“Machuca stated that he thought he could get away if he ran” Hollister Police Captain Carlos Reynoso said.
Officer Luis Toribio arrived to assist Officer Rodriguez and they both gave chase to Machuca who had changed his direction of travel and was running westbound on Line Street. He was apprehended and put in handcuffs as he tried to jump a fence.
Machuca began to violently resist arrest and began spitting and kicking and attempted to bite officers. While being handcuffed, Machuca grabbed an officer by the leg and attempted to hurt him. All attempts to subdue and calm Machuca failed and additional officers were called to the scene.
Machuca even went as far as to encourage his family members to help him as he continued to yell profanities at officers. Family members were continually ordered to stay back but they continued to interfere with the arrest.
“The worst thing to do is to interfere with the police,” Captain Reynoso added. “It just prolongs the situation and exposes officers and other individuals to injury.”
Machuca was booked into the San Benito County Jail on charges of resisting arrest and battery on a peace officer. His bail was been set at $5,600 dollars
