Carpinteria – Rincon High School sits on the grounds of the Carpinteria High School, but serves the Carpinteria School District as a “continuation” school for students previously unsuccessful in pursuing their high school diploma.
One of Rincon’s teachers, Michael George Carey, 41, himself a resident of Carpinteria, was arrested on December 12th pursuant to charges that he molested one of his female students. According to Santa Barbara County Sheriff Public Information officer Lt. Kelly Moore, Carey stands accused of felony sexual batter and misdemeanor child molestation for “allegedly inappropriately touching a female student.”
Lt. Kelly would not divulge the minor student’s identity, nor reveal the circumstances leading to the arrest.
Carey was summarily relieved of his teaching assignments and remains on paid administrative leave pursuant to “further investigation which will be conducted in due course,” according to Moore. At the time of his arrest, Carey was booked into Santa Barbara County Jail with a bail amount of $25,000.
