SANTA MARIA – Police arrested a man Thursday night on suspicion of attempted murder after responding to a domestic disturbance call in the area of South Lincoln.
Officers were dispatched to a home in the 600 block of South Lincoln just before 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 27, where Michael Russ, 36, was taken into custody without incident after police learned a weapon had been fired in the residence.
Russ was booked at Santa Barbara County Jail on charges of domestic violence, being a felon in possession of a firearm, negligent discharge, possession of ammunition by a felon, terrorist threats and attempted murder, according to police.
Police are not releasing the name or age of the alleged victim or whether Russ lived at the home where the gun was allegedly fired.
Russ is no stranger to Santa Maria police officers, who arrested the felon in early August after receiving calls from concerned residents in the 300 block of North Miller that an adult male was flashing a handgun.
Eyewitnesses at the late-night incident in August were able to provide officers with a physical description of Russ, as well as a description of his car, police said.
When police arrived at the scene, they saw Russ’ vehicle at the intersection of Mill and Miller Streets, where the then 35-year-old Santa Maria resident was found with a loaded handgun.
At that time, Russ was booked at County Jail on charges of being in possession of a loaded firearm and providing false information to police to avoid prosecution.
