Women target Nut Tree stores for thefts
Vacaville – Monique Yvette Erwin, 26, of Oakland, and Jessica Celeste Love, also 26, from El Sobrante, were arrested Thursday and charged with felony burglary. Love was also charged with driving on a suspended license.
On Thursday afternoon, witnesses and employees at the Vacaville Premium Outlets on Nut Tree Road called 911 about a theft at one of the stores. It was estimated that about $750 worth of merchandise had been stolen. Dispatchers were given descriptions of female suspects and of the Audi they drove, including the vehicle’s license plate number.
Vacaville PD checked the surrounding area for the Audi and located it traveling west on I-80. The driver of the vehicle didn’t pull over right away when police caught up with it, but instead the suspects continued west for about another mile before stopping. Witnesses were then brought to the location of the suspect’s Audi. Erwin and Love were positively identified on the spot as having taken items from one of the Premium Outlet stores without paying for them.
Officers searched the vehicle and located the stolen items, along with a device that removes anti-theft tags. In addition, officers found other merchandise from at least nine different stores. Not located were receipts, shopping bags or other indications that the merchandise had been purchased.
One of the other stores was contacted and property belonging to that store was identified and confirmed as missing from inventory. Investigation continues with regard to the rest of the items located in the suspects’ vehicle.
Vacaville PD point out that the quick action of witnesses and the accurate descriptions provided to police were crucial to the rapid conclusion of this case.
