Three Injured, One Dead after Los Angeles Police Chase Ends
Los Angeles- Three men have been injured, and one killed after a police chase fatally ended on the I-5 freeway just after 2 a.m. early Friday morning.
The vehicle pursued by officers was involved in the robbery of a 7-Eleven store in Boyle Heights. The suspects had robbed the store at knife point, but no one was injured. The suspects fled the scene in an SUV, where officers saw them recklessly driving through streets, initiating the chase onto the I-5 freeway near Lincoln Heights. The SUV then crashed into another vehicle, causing the vehicle to flip east of downtown Los Angeles.
The force of the flip caused money to be scattered across lanes and trapped two of three suspects and immediately killed the other. Of the injured suspects, one was immediately taken into custody and the other was taken to a local hospital along with the driver of the vehicle hit by the suspects. The body of the suspect driving the SUV was found lying on the freeway, where he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash resulted in the closing of northbound freeway lanes for nearly six hours and the slowing down of early morning commuters. All northbound lanes were later reopened around 7:50 a.m.
