Shopping Spree Leads to Arrest

Ronica Randolph, 37, had an errand filled day of groceries and children’s gifts – but with someone else’s credit card. She was promptly arrested on February 11, 2013.

A customer at the Urbanization store in San Carlos called the Sheriff’s Office when her wallet was stolen from a rear changing room. The police arrived but were unable to locate any of the three suspects matching the description the victim gave. The suspects were reportedly seen in the nearby San Carlos Caltrain station, said Deputy Rebecca Roseblatt, but after an exhaustive search, no one was located.
Meanwhile, the victim’s bank informed her of unusual purchases taking place at the Safeway and Walgreens store in Belmont, less than 2 miles north.
Soon, the bank informed the victim of additional purchases at Stride Rite Shoes, Gymboree, Sephora, and Kara’s Cupcakes on Burlingame Avenue in Burlingame, near the Burlingame Caltrain station, about 8 miles north of San Carlos Caltrain station.
Randolph is accused of stealing a purse in the changing room at the Urbanization clothing store and going on a shopping spree all over the county
The Burlingame Police Department was advised, and Burlingame officers stopped and detained Randolph near the Caltrain station. According to Dep. Rosenblatt, the stolen credit cards were found on the ground near Randolph.
Randolph was transported and booked into the San Mateo County Jail on charges of burglary, unauthorized use of an access card, possession of an access card with intent to defraud, attempted burglary, and stolen property.
