On Friday evening, March 15, an unidentified male Costa Mesa resident was aboard an Orange County Transit Authority bus traveling through Costa Mesa at about 7:30. The 25-year-old victim got off the bus at Harbor Blvd. and Bay Street, and was followed by the two, who continued to harass him verbally, and then chased him on foot along Harbor. While one assaulted him with his fists, the other displayed a handgun tucked into his waistband.
He either escaped or was let go by the assailants, and ran home to notify the police. Costa Mesa police Gang Officers conducted an investigation of the incident, and identified possible suspects. Search warrants were issued and served at multiple locations, which resulted in the arrest of 20-year-old Arturo Gonzalez of Anaheim, and 21-year-old Zachariah Acosta of La Habra on Thursday.
They were both booked into the Orange County Jail on charges of criminal threats, street gang participation and promotion, and conspiracy. They were held on $50,000 bail each. It was reported that they both posted bond.
