Alleged Rapist Arrested

A man is under arrest after he allegedly attempted to rape a woman.

Bryan Kwang Kim, 28

According to San Luis Obispo police, officers responded to a call regarding a possible rape on the 1200 block of Manzanita around 9:29 a.m. on Friday. The police were told the suspect was still in the residence.

The victim told police the suspect was Bryan Kwang Kim, 28, of San Luis Obispo.

Police say Kim was seen driving away from the scene in his vehicle, but was stopped a short distance away. They detained him shortly while still continuing their investigation.

Investigators say Kim was the victim’s former roommate and had moved out of the residence recently. The day of the incident, he showed up at the apartment and entered the victim’s bedroom a little before 9:30 a.m while she was sleeping.

The victim said she woke up to find Kim naked in her bed attempting to sexually assault her. She resisted his advances and fought him back. She was able to escape and call the police before Kim could leave.

Both Kim and the victim sustained minor injuries as a result of the assault. Neither required medical treatment.

Kim was arrested for assault with the intent to commit rape, penetration with a foreign object, burglary, false imprisonment and sexual battery. He was transported to the San Luis Obispo County Jail with his bail was set at $100,000.
