Three arrested in gang-related murder
SACRAMENTO — Police have arrested three men suspected of being responsible for last month’s gang-related shooting death of a local 19-year-old while in his car.
Thursday’s arrest of Marcus Scott, 20, Ron Grant, 19, and 20-year-old Jumal Gray arrived less than a month after authorities discovered the bullet-ridden body of Perell Waters in the parking lot of an apartment complex on the 1900 block of San Juan Road. Waters was transported to an area hospital where he later died.
Based on their investigation, detectives and crime scene investigators believe Waters and a friend were apart to leave an apartment parking lot when three suspects approached on foot and opened fire on the car. Waters was shot several times while seated in the driver’s seat. His friend was able to escape unharmed on foot.
It is believed that the suspects committed the murder as part of an ongoing gang dispute.
Scott was arrested after the Career Criminal Apprehension Team stopped him in a vehicle at San Juan Avenue and Truxel Road. Grant was already in custody on unrelated charges and Gray was arrested at police headquarters.
