Woodland Male Booked for Attempted Residential Burglary

WOODLAND – On Thursday, April 11, 2013 at approximately 11:20 p.m., Woodland police officers received notice that an interrupted residential burglary had occurred on the 1600 block of Farnham Ave. Officers received additional notice while on scene that two Hispanic males had fled from the victim’s backyard after she had startled them by taking out her window screens and breaking a dual-pane rear window.

A neighbor who came to assist the victim chased after one of the suspects.  The neighbor attempted to apprehend the suspect but was met with a shiny knife blade swinging his way.  The suspect who fled’s description is as follows: 20-year-old Hispanic male adult, 5 ft 6 inches, with a thin build.  Reportedly, he was last seen running westbound on Farnham Ave.

A responding deputy apprehended the second suspect leaving the area east of the victim’s home.  Other responding officers administered an in-field “show-up” of the second suspect with a witness to the crime.  The witness positively recognized the subject as one of the burglars.

Officers arrested Ernesto Justin Negrete, 19 of Woodland.  He faces charges of attempted residential burglary, committing a felony while released from custody-both felony crimes- and one count of misdemeanor vandalism.  Currently, Negrete is in custody at Yolo County Jail where, he had recently been released for an unrelated burglary charge.

Fortunately, neither the victim or witness were injured during the incident.  The armed suspect who fled is still unknown.  Anybody with information is encouraged to call the Woodland Police Department at (530) 661-7800
