Mill Valley man arrested after voluntarily entering police station

SAN RAFAEL – On 4/25 a male from Mill Valley was arrested on suspicion of robbery, reportedly having assaulted a male at a San Rafael gas station and nabbing a backpack holding approximately $2,000 in cash.

20-year-old John Robert Crane was charged Thursday with one count of robbery.  He is sitting not-so-pretty in custody on $75,000 bail.  Deputies are still trying to determine the second suspect in the assault.

20-year-old Terra Linda male, and unfortunate alleged assault victim, told police that the robbery took place approximately at 11:30 p.m.  on April 17th.

The victim claims the two suspects trailed him from his residence toward downtown San Rafael, and when he exited his vehicle, they attacked him at the gas station at Lincoln and Mission Aves.

The Terra Linda male said the men attacked him and grabbed the backpack from his car.  His backpack held the cash, his wallet, cell phone and other belongings.  San Rafael police spokeswoman Margo Rohrbacher said the overall loss was approximately estimated at $2,352.

The victim told police he knew one of the suspects, Crane, and identified his photo out of a group of pictures.Crane voluntarily walked into the police station Wednesday and was arrested after an interrogation.  Police lack a detailed description of the second reported assailant.
