Heavy Metal Front Man Remains in Jail despite Lowered Bail
SAN DIEGO- Following his May 7 arrest and not guilty plea for soliciting murder, As I Lay Dying lead singer Tim Lambesis requested lowered bail, which was reduced from $3 to $2 million.
Following a sting operation in which Tim Lambesis 32, allegedly solicited an undercover officer to murder his estranged wife, the rocker was arrested. Lambesis is the front man for the Christian metalcore and Grammy nominated band As I Lay Dying. He was charged with three federal counts, including solicitation of another to commit murder and two counts of conspiracy to commit crime, according to the San Diego County sheriff’s department.
Meggan Lambesis filed for divorce in September 2012 to end the couple’s eight-year marriage. They have three adopted children ages 4, 8, and 10 who live their mother in Del Mar. According to divorce records obtained by the Associated Press, Meggan Lambesis claimed that her husband had become obsessed with body building and was inattentive when caring for their children, even falling asleep when he was supposed to be watching them. Tom Warwick, who is representing Tim Lambesis echoed this, noting that his client had fallen into the “gym culture” and was taking steroids which had altered his mental status.
Lambesis’ legal team requested that his $3 million bail be dropped to $250,000, arguing that this was a more reasonable amount for someone with no previous criminal record. However, in a hearing on May 17, the judge only dropped the bail to $2 million, stating that Lambesis was a danger to society and his estranged wife, as well as a flight risk. However, Lambesis’ family was still unable to raise the money for the lowered bail and according to his attorney, he will remain in jail. His next court appearance is scheduled for May 29 and if convicted he may serve up to nine years in prison.
