Alert Vacaville Citizen Helps Nab Car Burglar
VACAVILLE – An alert Vacaville community member noticed Alfredo Ortega, 20, behaving suspiciously in her neighborhood and called police. Ortega, a Fairfield resident, was methodically peeking into one parked car after another. He would cup his hands against the cars’ closed windows and then bang on the side of each one.
The Vacaville police officer arriving on the scene near the intersection of Butcher Road and Alamo Drive saw Ortega get in his Nissan Altima and leave. The officer stopped Ortega and ascertained that he was serving probation with Solano County and had a suspended California Drivers License (CDL). The officer searched the suspect and found he was was for some reason carrying around two other CDLs that belonged to victims of an auto burglary that had taken place at the same location on April 25, 2013.
The witness identified the suspect and mentioned her conjecture that he was banging on the cars to see if he could set off their alarms. Ortega was arrested and his car towed.
