Four High-Speed Pursuit Suspects Identified
ANDERSON – Anderson police identified three males and a woman who were arrested Monday after a high-speed chase which ended in Redding. Among those detained were Redding residents Billie Jo Paterson, 23, Raymond Lamar Thomas, 24, Benjamin Ben Barnett, 31, and Jennifer Ann Barrett, 21. Police verified Monday that at least one shot was fired towards them from the vehicle as it fled. Today, police updated their database, claiming they had yet to verify if shots were fired. Officers could not locate a weapon after searching the pursuit trail.
The chase began in a Wal-Mart parking lot in Anderson at approximately 9:32 a.m., officers identified a Pontiac Grand Prix that was reported as stolen. Officers spotted four subjects climbing into the car, police tried to contact the subjects who then sped off.
The pursuit exceeded 100 mph– the passengers shot two flares from a flare gun which began two fires in the location of Palo Cedro. Additionally, passengers threw stolen merchandise and other belongings from the car.
The driver eventually lost control of the wheel and was forced to stop on Highway 299 east of Churn Creek Rd. in Redding. The four occupants were booked into the Shasta County Jail on suspicion of possession of stolen property, burglary and other offenses. Barnett was booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer.
