Man Arrested after Police Chase; Two Suspects Still at Large
Officers with the La Mesa Police Department arrested a man early Sunday morning after a police chase in connection to two stolen vehicles.
4200 Block of Lowell Avenue
Police Officers responded to the Lowell Street and University Avenue area around 8 a.m. to a report of a suspicious vehicle. Three men were witnessed throwing away a motorcycle and jumping into a Honda Civic. It was later discovered that both vehicles had been previously stolen.
As officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the suspects refused, which resulted in a four-mile chase. The chase came to an end when the Civic crashed into a guardrail located at Lake Aral Drive and Lake Murray Boulevard.
One suspect was arrested by officers as he attempted to flee. He has been identified as 26 year-old Boone Blankatz.
The remaining suspects have not been caught. Both men have been described as Caucasian men in their 20s. One suspect was seen wearing a white shirt; police say he is about 5 feet, 6 inches and weighs around 180 pounds. The second suspect was seen wearing a black hoodie along with black pants.
The La Mesa Police Department was assisted by San Diego Police Officers as well as a San Diego Sheriff’s helicopter during the chase.
Blankatz was booked into the San Diego County Jail on charges of possession of a stolen vehicle and an outstanding felony warrant.
