Trigger-Happy Resident Tazed Into Submission
HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA — A busy day in Huntington Beach that included an investigation into a suspected murder-suicide , was capped off by a man firing his rifle into the air during a reported domestic disturbance, resulting in the arrest of Lawrence Ray Brankov, 65, of Huntington Beach.
According to a Huntington Beach police report, officers responded to calls regarding a family dispute in the 17300 block of Rob Roy Circle about 9:30 PM. As officers were on their way to the location, further reports indicated a man had stepped outside of the suspected residence with a rifle and fired a shot into the air. By the time police arrived, however, the man had gone back inside where neighbors indicated a female was also present.
While police surrounded the home and set up a perimeter of the area, the man allegedly walked outside then retreated back inside the home several times over the course of the next 30 minutes, sometimes carrying the rifle.
Finally, as the man emerged from the home during one of his exit/reentry maneuvers, this time carrying a beer bottle, police were able to confront him. Reportedly brandishing the beer bottle like a weapon as officers approached, the suspect was tasered and taken into custody.
Brankov was booked into Huntington Beach city jail and charged with willful negligent discharge of a firearm.
