Suspect Arrested in Fatal Hit and Run
Woodland Police have arrested a suspect involved in a fatal hit and run that occurred early Monday morning in Woodland.
According to the Police, the incident occurred around 1:13 a.m. Officers were dispatched to the scene of the crash and found an injured man lying on the sidewalk in front of a local Chase Bank. Emergency personnel were called to the scene, where they later pronounced the man dead a short while later.
During an investigation of the scene, officers were able to find a license plate they believed belonged to the suspected vehicle involved in the crash and immediately began a search of the surrounding area for the car and suspect.
The car was later found around 2:20 a.m. parked on a street with the suspect seated in the driver’s seat. Officers made contact with the suspect, ordering for him to leave the vehicle. The suspect refused and was forcibly removed from the vehicle by Officers.
The suspect has been identified as 19 year-old Ivan Martinez, a Woodland resident. Officers were able to determine that during the accident, Martinez was under the influence of an intoxicant. He was taken into custody and booked into the Monroe Detention Center and charged with gross vehicular manslaughter, fleeing the scene of a collision after committing vehicular manslaughter, driving while under the influence causing bodily injury and driving without a license. His bail has been set at $250,000.
