Corona Del Mar racks up second bank robbery for the week
NEWPORT BEACH — In an area not known for its crime problems, a second bank robbery in three days struck the affluent Corona Del Mar community of Newport Beach Friday morning. Police are searching for the suspect in the June 11 crime.
The heist began just before 10 a.m. when a white male entered the Citibank branch at 3021 East Coast Highway.
“The suspect approached a female teller and handed her a note. The note implied that he had a handgun and demanded all of the money in the drawer,” the Newport Beach Police Department said in a posting to its Facebook page.
The teller complied, handing an undisclosed amount of cash over to the suspect who then exited the bank.
A witness at the scene believes they saw the suspect take off in a new, silver four-door vehicle.
Newport Beach police encourage anyone with any information regarding the suspect to please contact them at (800) 550-NBPD, anonymously if desired.
A Bank of America branch, located approximately two blocks south of the Citibank on Pacific Coast Highway, was robbed Tuesday, June 8. Three suspects were apprehended in Long Beach for that robbery after a lengthy car chase through several cities.
